According to the Educational Testing Service (ETS), Singapore, Australia, France, and Sweden have seen an increase in the number of score reports from Indian TOEFL test takers and are now gaining popularity as new travel destinations. Since 2017, the US and Canada have been the two most popular destinations for Indians taking the TOEFL test. The UK was in fourth place as of 2019, with Germany in third.
The two nations' positions have changed starting in 2020, though. The top five nations selected by Indian TOEFL test takers have mostly stayed the same over the previous 5–6 years. Singapore, Australia, France, and Sweden are among the developing nations for Indian exam takers, in addition to the top destination nations. An increasing number of test takers from India have reported their scores in these nations. The proportion of Indian test takers who are seeking a license, certification, or visa to attend secondary school overseas has increased from 5.83 percent in 2021 to 7.77 percent in 2022. The percentage of Indian test takers taking the TOEFL for employment or immigration has decreased from 8.19% to 7.22% over the same time period.
According to the data, more Indians are taking the TOEFL to enroll in graduate or postgraduate degrees than ever before—up from 70.84 percent in 2021 to 71.87 percent in 2022. In comparison to the prior year, the number of Indians taking the TOEFL increased by 53% in 2021. There were 59% more test-takers in 2022 than there were in 2021.
